Do You Want to Date My Avatar?

posted by nblevins on Wednesday, August 19, 2009

This you tube video has been circling around on the Twittersphere for a while, but it is so good that I had to blog about it.  The killer thing about this video is that there is a ton of truth in it.  If you have played a MMO before, you know what I am talking about.

This clip is a promotional video for The Guild, which is a great indie production that will keep you laughing.  Check out the video!  (and then check out the show, lol)

If you want to see more of the Guild, check them out here.  IIRC, you can also download episodes via XBOX Live.  Its cast includes persons from other great productions such as Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog and The Legend of Neil

Spammers!

Woot! I got spammers! Does this mean that I am now, officially, mainstream! Quick, I gotta put up some ads and start generating revenue! I am now on the map!

(I hate spammers. Will delete later and then these two comments will make no sense at all. :) )

Or just remove her website link... Then we'll be like "wow, that chick doesn't really make a lot of sense... but how'd they know it was a spammer?!" lol.

By the way... your regex for email addresses sucks. I can't put my real email address in. Just sayin'.

Well, I think his regex is working just fine. Get a real domain name or get off my interwebs!

Sorry about the Regex thing. I have a list of about 1,000 things that I am going to fix on this site... as soon as I get around to it. :) and.. I think Dylan raises a good point. Why uses a "us" domain anyway... its all about .biz now baby! (which probably does not work either, lol)...

So, what is it about this blog post that is attracting the spammers? Is it the youtube link? Strange. At least they could strive for coherent sentences... :\

On my website's contact page I added a test that said "what's 2+2" (hardcoded, lol) and stopped getting spam. (there's also a bunch of free libraries for CAPTCHAs but that's actually work!)

I think they basically hand-craft form submissions that work then put that into an app that slowly spams you. If you change the form (even extremely infrequently) it's too much trouble for them to go back and adjust their form to work again.
